Eastern Michigan University, a MAC conference school with approximately 225,000 alumni, 25,000 existing students and 2,500 employees, has selected Affinity Telecom to be its preferred telecommunications provider. As a result of this innovative program, EMU's alumni, employees and students will have an opportunity to transfer their traditional telephone, cellular and Internet services to Affinity, and not only will they realize a significant savings over their current provider, but Affinity will gift 5% of their telephone bill back to EMU each month as long as they remain customers. This provides EMU and the EMU community the advantages of saving money and receiving a range of services from a single provider on a single bill, as well as supporting a significant institution in their community.
Dr. David Diles, athletic director, said, "We are tremendously pleased with this new partnership and know that it will be mutually beneficial for the both EMU and Affinity. We're always looking for ways to raise additional funds for the university, and this program will allow our students, faculty and alumni to get involved in this effort. Affinity Telecom is one of the up- and-coming telecommunication firms and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is honored to be associated with Affinity Telecom."
Yanni Kopanakis, president of Affinity Telecom, says, "Affinity and our parent MobilePro Corp. are committed to helping organizations through these challenging budget times. MobilePro gives us the financial strength to aggressively accelerate our plans to roll these programs out nationwide. We believe we can add significant value through this program to many organizations."
Kevin Kuykendall, MobilePro group president for voice services, said, "This is not only an outstanding fundraising opportunity, but it provides a vehicle for everyone involved at EMU to get involved. Our goal is to have a successful program with EMU and then take this model to similar campuses throughout the United States. Our concept works well at both the college and high school levels, as well as with faith-based organizations, youth groups and any organization looking for new and creative ways of raising significant funds to support their goals. We are extremely proud of our existing partnerships with the American Red Cross and Special Olympics. Both organizations are well on their way to attaining their targets."
The kick-off for the program will take place at the November 6 "Collegiate Clash" Football Doubleheader, which is being presented by Affinity Telecom. The games will be played at Ford Field, the NFL's premier stadium in Detroit, Michigan. Wayne State will play Hillsdale at noon and Eastern Michigan will host Central Michigan at 4:30 p.m. Attendance is expected to exceed 40,000 fans.
