Bluestacks Adds Skyhook Location Technology to Android App Player

Boston, MA, Nov 08, 2012 (PRWeb.com via COMTEX) -- Skyhook, the world leader in location positioning, context and intelligence, today announced that BlueStacks, a Silicon Valley company with an Android App Player for PC, will be integrating Skyhook's Location Engine into its software to help identify where user's laptops and desktops are located.

BlueStacks enables Android applications to run on Windows machines, helping users access Android apps on a PC, while avoiding the problem of cheap and laggy emulators. BlueStacks' technology can be integrated into offerings for both the consumer and commercial (enterprise) market segments.

Many apps that play within BlueStacks look to the phone's GPS for location. Because BlueStacks is a Windows program that runs on PCs and tablets, most don't have GPS functionality built in. Skyhook will enable apps from FourSquare to ZocDoc to Accuweather to work best in BlueStacks, and to most reliably determine user location.

"Incorporating Skyhook technology into BlueStacks enables us to add a huge amount of location-based apps to the already massive ecosystem we've created by merging Android and Windows," said BlueStacks CEO, Rosen Sharma. "Skyhook has built something really unique that we can't wait to leverage around the world." "Skyhook is the only way to get location on Windows today for any client app. We are excited to provide the best location services possible to Bluestacks, and in turn increase the availability of location-based Android apps for Windows users," said Magore Taylor, marketing manager at Skyhook. "We believe that users should be able to enjoy best location no matter their chosen platform, and this is another stride in that direction." The alpha version of BlueStacks App Player can be downloaded for free at http://BlueStacks.com. Skyhook provides an SDK for developers available here.

What Fiber Mountain's Interop Recognition Means for Our Industry

When Fiber Mountain™ began its journey with a launch at Interop New York last fall, we certainly believed that we had a solution that would make a significant impact in the data center space.

What On-Board Optics Means for Density and Flexibility

This past week I read an article in Lightwave Magazine and another in Network World about the formation of the Consortium for On-board Optics (COBO), a group that seeks to create specifications and increase the faceplate density of data center switches and adapters.

Scaling Hyperscale in an Age of Exponential Growth and Virtualization

Over the past several years server, network, storage and application virtualization has revolutionized the way hyperscale data centers are built by consolidating workloads. The trend has simplified network architecture significantly and resulted in huge cost savings as well.

SDN can be the "GPS" Data Center Networks Need

Almost 30 years ago, I came to the USA to attend college, and in my early years as a student I spent every winter, spring and summer break traveling to different parts of this beautiful country.

How Fiber Mountain Future-Proofs Your Data Center

By now you most likely noticed that one of the topics I focus on continually is the problem data centers face today in meeting bandwidth needs. Until now, data centers were forced to purchase fire-breathing, million-dollar core switches to handle the growing volume of traffic, a solution that is both expensive and inefficient.
