TMCNet: NetJapan™ Introduces ImageBoot™, a New FREE Software Add-On that instantly Boots Virtual Machines from ActiveImage Protector™ Backups

NetJapan™ Introduces ImageBoot™, a New FREE Software Add-On that instantly Boots Virtual Machines from ActiveImage Protector™ Backups

NetJapan, Inc., publisher of backup, recovery, and virtualization software solutions, announces ImageBoot, a free standalone software add-on that can boot ActiveImage Protector backup images as virtual machines using VMware or Hyper-V; providing an interim availability solution to bridge the gap between disaster and recovery.

ImageBoot bypasses the lengthy, resource intensive, and cumbersome physical to virtual conversion process, and boots directly from the backup. Backups can be booted as virtual machines in as little as two minutes. Changes made while running virtual machines from backups are saved as differential backup files. This allows for a more current restoration. ImageBoot uses the backup as a "Compact Spare Wheel" while repairing, testing software changes, or testing upgrades prior to deployment.

Features

  • Start a virtual machine from an ActiveImage Protector full, incremental or differential backup image.
  • Eliminate lengthy physical to virtual conversions and restore processes.
  • Support for VMware (WorkStation, Player, and Player Pro) and Microsoft (News - Alert) Hyper-V Windows based hypervisors.
  • ImageBoot Virtual machines behave as the original source machines.
  • Supports UEFI and drives larger than 2TB.
  • ImageBoot is a free download from NetJapan.

Additional Uses for ImageBoot

  • Perform mock disaster drills to verify recoverability.
  • Identifying and isolating points of failure by performing Postmortem Boot Analysis of the backup image and incremental files.
  • Can serve as interim replacement server in the event of failure or while hardware is repaired or upgraded.
  • Virtual migration testing.
  • Testing system or application upgrades prior to deployment to a live environment.
  • Verify the integrity of a backups.

Availability

ImageBoot software and support are available in Europe, Asia/Pacific and North America. NetJapan, Inc. distributes ImageBoot through authorized resellers, system integrators, business partners, distributors, and directly from NetJapan's website.

Scaling Hyperscale in an Age of Exponential Growth and Virtualization

Over the past several years server, network, storage and application virtualization has revolutionized the way hyperscale data centers are built by consolidating workloads. The trend has simplified network architecture significantly and resulted in huge cost savings as well.

SDN can be the "GPS" Data Center Networks Need

Almost 30 years ago, I came to the USA to attend college, and in my early years as a student I spent every winter, spring and summer break traveling to different parts of this beautiful country.

How Fiber Mountain Future-Proofs Your Data Center

By now you most likely noticed that one of the topics I focus on continually is the problem data centers face today in meeting bandwidth needs. Until now, data centers were forced to purchase fire-breathing, million-dollar core switches to handle the growing volume of traffic, a solution that is both expensive and inefficient.

A Look Back on ITEXPO Miami

Last week, the members of the Fiber Mountain™ team who managed to make it out of the northeast before the nasty winter weather hit (apologies to our tradeshow and networking guru, Keith, who was not so fortunate) headed to Miami for Technology Marketing Corporation’s (TMC) business technology event, ITEXPO.

Join Fiber Mountain at ITEXPO for a Special Keynote

Another Fiber Mountain™ milestone is almost upon us, and the excitement is palpable around our Cheshire, CT office.

At 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 28 at ITEXPO Miami, I will be speaking with Rich Tehrani, CEO of Technology Marketing Corporation—host company for the biannual conference—in a “fireside chat” that will serve as one of the event’s keynotes.

From Las Vegas to Miami

Last August, a few members of the Fiber Mountain team, me included, flew to Las Vegas to take part in Technology Marketing Corporation’s ITEXPO conference at the Rio Hotel in Las Vegas. I gave a brief talk at one of the conference’s collocated events, Software Telco Congress—the NFV and SDN event—introducing the tenets of Fiber Mountain’s message for the first time anywhere.

Fiber Mountain and Facebook Fabric Networks: Similarities and Differences

If you’ve been keeping up with data center network news—and if you’re reading this blog I assume you have been—you’ve probably read about Facebook’s new data center fabric. The company recently deployed this new architecture in a data center in Iowa with the goal of increasing scalability and flexibility, both of which are critical for an organization that handles a tremendous amount of network traffic.
