Transforming Network Infrastructure Week in Review: Equinix, IDT, Infinera
The week in transforming network infrastructure saw the release of a couple interesting new studies, as well as some vendor solution unveilings. These new reports come from Dell’Oro and Radiant Insights.
Driven by the uptake of cloud solutions, the Layer 2-3 Ethernet switch market is poised to reach a value of more than $25 billion in 2019, according to the new data from Dell’Oro Group. More information regarding the report can be found HERE.
"When we look at the campus market in particular, we see vendors offering cloud-based solutions, as Ethernet switching become a supportive technology to wireless connectivity,” Alan Weckel, vice president of Ethernet switch market research at Dell'Oro Group, said. “This will be especially true on multi-gigabit, 2.5gbps, and 5gbps products that begin shipping later this year."
The Radiant Insights report, meanwhile, indicates that the global optical transceiver market is on track to reach $9.9 billion by 2002, according to THIS report.
The firm’s “Global Optical Transceiver Market Size, Regional Outlook, Application Analysis, Competitive Insights And Forecasts, 2014-2020” report mentions such vendors as Agilent Technologies, Alcatel-Lucent, Avago Technologies, Broadcom, Fujitsu, Huawei, NEC, and Sumitomo. And it talks about the move to 40, 100, and 400gbps technology, and how devices are becoming smaller, more affordable, and more power efficient, which makes them ideal for use in data centers and fiber networks.

Speaking of data centers, it was revealed this week that Infinera will provide Equinix with the Infinera Cloud Xpress to interconnect its Hong Kong data centers.
"Equinix is growing rapidly across the globe and Hong Kong is no exception," said Raphael Ho, senior director, network engineering and operations at Equinix. "Our three Hong Kong-based IBX data centers already support over 340 customers, and we recently announced expansions at two of these sites. Cloud Xpress is an ideal solution for us to expand network capacity between our sites, with its high density, low power consumption, and a very simple rack-and-stack operations model." More information about the deal can be found HERE.
And a company called Integrated Device Technology is opening a computing lab where developers of analytics, image processing software, machine learning solutions, and pattern recognition products can work with a variety of accelerators and processors. More detail about the lab is HERE.
