Coriant's New Improvements Boost Network Infrastructure
We all know how valuable a network is these days, and how important it is to routinely update the network infrastructure in a bid to keep it running at its peak. The good news is that, recently, Coriant stepped up its own open optical line system solution, which should help put some extra life into the operation.
The system is in customer trials right now, so any hope of getting hands on this right away and putting it to work will be pretty much dashed. Once it's more widely available, however, the new system—the 7300 OLS (open line solution), as it's known—will bring together the best of Coriant's current hiT 7300 Multi-Haul Transport Platform system with some new added features. These include new support for the primary equipment practices data centers use, like front-to-back airflow and AC power to get the most out of the system.
Further, the shelf design on the 7300 OLS ensures that it not only uses available space to the fullest but also ensures the best in power efficiency as well. It even allows for simplified management when putting in points like network functions virtualization (NFV) or software-defined networking (SDN) operations thanks to its use of the Coriant Transcend SDN Transport Controller system. Included optical link control systems help further drive the best in performance, minimizing the impact of degrading fiber, or lesser-quality fiber used at the outset.
Coriant's vice president of product management, Stefan Voll, commented, “Flexibility, openness, and stability are increasingly critical in long hau
l networks as dynamic and hyperscale traffic flows between data centers drive new design criteria and disaggregated deployment models. The new 7300 OLS combines best-in-class optical layer performance with data center optimized features in an open system design to improve DCI performance in long haul transport and ROADM applications.”
All this taken together makes it clear that Coriant is eager to be one of the biggest names around in network infrastructure, as demonstrated so
clearly by its renovation of a top product line to include quite a bit more value. Having the best in network operations is so important to our business operations, and even what we do after hours. Thus, a move like this helps users on several fronts, and encourages network providers to include Coriant systems in the overall technological loadout.
The end result should be big for Coriant, as it adds to its own capability and thus makes itself more valuable in the market. With so much competition out there to provide network components and be part of the overall network infrastructure, it can be difficult to make a case for a particular line. Coriant, meanwhile, is making its case with every new advance.
