IDC Expects Surge in SD-WAN Infrastructure Space
In this age of innovation talking the talk is easy, but every now and again technology lives up to the hype. Today, much hyped SD-WAN is showing that exponential growth is on the horizon, and we are simply seeing early steps in a marathon journey for this burgeoning technology.
IDC announced two new reports, both spotlighting the explosive growth in the SD-WAN infrastructure market, expecting a CAGR greater than 40 percent through 2022, reaching a valuation of $4.5 billion in that time.
"The emergence of SD-WAN technology has been one of the fastest industry transformations we have seen in years. Organizations of all sizes are modernizing their Wide Area Networks to provide improved user experience for a range of cloud-enabled applications," said Rohit Mehra, vice president, Network Infrastructure, IDC.
According to the reports, IDC places Cisco in the top spot, with VMware possessing the second largest market share, and the remainder of the lead pack comprised of Silver peak, Riverbed, Aryaka, Nokia and Versa Networks.
Mehra continued to note, "Incumbent networking vendors have quickly realigned their routing and WAN optimization portfolios to take on the growing cadre of startups in this market. Enabled by a rapid uptake across the service provider domain, SD-WAN infrastructure will continue to grow rapidly in the coming years, providing a beachhead for other software-defined networking and security functions in the enterprise branch."
Change is in the air. Software defined networking solutions are delivering a flexible, pocket friendly and high performing means to support the cloud era.
