ClearLight CFP-DCO Coherent Transceiver is Transforming Network Infrastructure
NeoPhotonics provides the technology for high-speed data transmission and efficient allocation of bandwidth over communications networks by designing and manufacturing hybrid photonic integrated optoelectronic modules and subsystems. With more bandwidth intensive services being delivered online, transforming network infrastructure is key to provide ultrahigh definition video, real-time hosted cloud applications, streaming services and more. NeoPhotonics announced as part of its ClearLight Coherent Module platform introduction, it has started sampling of its Coherent CFP-DCO module.
Instead of using electrons to perform different optical functions, photonic integrated circuits use light. These highly integrated optical chips have expanded the range of possible functionalities because of recent developments in nanostructures, metamaterials, and silicon technologies.
Using the ClearLight DCO platform, NeoPhotonics has integrated the latest advances in 16nm Digital Signal Processors (DSPs) to get single wavelength 100 and 200 Gbps transmission over datacenter interconnect through long haul transmission distances as operators focus on transforming network infrastructure.

"Our new ClearLight CFP-DCO 100G pluggable Coherent transponder represents a powerful new platform product for NeoPhotonics, and we are pleased to initiate sampling to customers. This exciting new product is made possible by our Advanced Hybrid Photonic Integration technology, coupled with the latest advances in 16 nm Coherent DSPs, and provides our customers with a flexible, high performance pluggable coherent module for their high speed networks," said Tim Jenks, Chairman and CEO of NeoPhotonics.
The 100G CFP-DCO gets rid of a booster EDFA (Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifiers) to achieve the necessary output optical power level, thus achieving a much higher transmitter optical signal to noise ratio (OSNR) to enable longer transmission distances and CDC ROADM operations. By plugging directly into existing 100G CFP client-side slots, the first release 100Gbps version will use a standard 100GE or OTU-4 interface to extend the range and capacity for metro and DCI applications.
The 200Gbps version uses 16-QAM or quadrature amplitude modulation to achieve the higher datarate, and it is based on the same platform and high volume, proven coherent optical components.
Transforming network infrastructure requires improving the technologies across the entire chain. NeoPhotonics' new ClearLight CFP-DCO 100G pluggable Coherent transponder is one of many solutions telecoms, data centers, network operators and enterprises must deploy to address the bandwidth intensive services consumers and organizations are looking for.
