Gigamon's New GigaVUE-FM Fabric Manager Means Easier Network Fabric Control

July 12, 2016

Trying to keep a network managed can be a tall order. With several different parts all going on at the same time, and so many potential points of failure when something does go wrong, it can be a problem just trying to figure out what needs to be fixed, let alone how to fix it. That's where Gigamon's new GigaVUE-FM Fabric Manager steps in to make Gigamon a big deal when it comes to offering data center and cloud visibility, helping to track down problems to be addressed.

With the new system, Gigamon can bring out a major new innovation known as automated network topology visualization, which allows larger operations to more readily manage infrastructure. It's especially designed for the large-scale data center, offering complete, end-to-end visibility of Visibility Fabric components. With Gigamon's new systems, networks can be automatically detected with either Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP) or Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP), and from there, any behavior that shouldn't be happening on the network can be spotted and addressed more readily. Using the more common protocols as a means to discover problems allows solutions to be more rapidly put in place, and takes the need for a lot of manual tasks completely out of the system.

When used in concert with other technologies like customizable dashboards, elastic search and REST application programming interfaces (APIs), the end result is that GigaVUE-FM can deliver substantial new capability as a security delivery system as well as an overall network management aid. The new topology visualization systems are available starting with version 3.4.

Gigamon's director of product management Sesh Sayani commented “We remain committed to offering vendor-agnostic visibility and are uniquely able to meet the needs of customers with large data centers and clouds. We recognize that the Visibility Fabric is rapidly becoming essential data center infrastructure and we will continue to be customer-driven in the capabilities that make our market-leading solution easy to use for troubleshooting and security.”

Considering what proportion of everyday activities for many businesses come in contact with the network in one way or another, it's not surprising that there would be a push on to make the network the best it can be. Such a measure starts with protecting it from outside threats and addressing any internal problems that might crop up, and a system like Gigamon's might be just the thing. Being able to spot problems as they begin developing, and using that same concept to bolster security, means an excellent overall value and a system that many will want to consider incorporating into current network operations.

Gigamon's GigaVUE-FM Fabric Manager should be appealing to many users out there who will welcome its versatility and its sheer power to help keep the network running at full tilt.

Day 3 of Cisco Live is history! For Fiber Mountain, we continued to enjoy visits from decision makers and influencers who were eager to share their data center and structured cabling challenges.

Day 2, Cisco Live!

Tuesday was Day 2 of Cisco Live for Fiber Mountain and we continued to experience high levels of traffic, with many high value decision makers and influencers visiting our booth. One very interesting difference from most conferences I attend is that there are no titles on anyone's show badges. This allows open conversations without people being pretentious. I think this is a very good idea.
