Centec and EmbedWay Collaborate to Advance SDN Capability
Software Defined Networking (SDN) is developing at a fast rate as more network and data center operators, telecoms and enterprises deploy the technology to manage the volume of traffic being generated today. Hardware manufacturers are introducing new capabilities in the marketplace with flexible and cost-effective networking system solutions for SDN technology. A collaboration between Centec and EmbedWay has resulted in the ExSwitch6200/6300 series 10GE SDN white box solution, which according to both parties makes it the industry's first high-density 10G/40GE open-networking platform with native 100GE (4x25G SerDes) uplinks.
Centec Networks develops solutions that leverage high-performance open SDN architecture with innovative switching chips and white box solutions to increase the capacity and performance for carrier, enterprise and data center networks. In this collaboration, it provided its 1.2 terabit-per-second (Tbps) GoldenGate silicon chip to move to 100GE networking to improve real-time SDN decision-making.
The chip supports a range of network virtualization overlay technology, including VXLAN and the latest GENEVE protocol. It also improves visibility to the forwarding plane such as elephant flow detection, on-chip flow tracing, real time monitoring and telemetry.
EmbedWay Technologies contributed its expertise in intelligent infrastructure products and solutions to address the complexities in SDN. Its ExSwitch6400 series will deliver an open platform so enterprises, telcos and datacenters won't be tied to proprietary solutions. It supports the Open Compute Project (OCP) hardware design guidelines, Open Network Install Environment (ONIE) for ODM, and other bare metal switches using multiple operating systems such as OpenSwitch.

"This is the first of what we anticipate will be many successful collaborations with EmbedWay, as we take advantage of the unique capabilities of Centec's GoldenGate terabit switching silicon to help solve SDN challenges while delivering on open networking's promise, including the freedom for customers to choose the hardware and network operating system solutions in each layer of the network solution stack that best meet their needs," said Tao Gu, vice president of business development with Centec.
The GoldenGate chip will minimize the latency and power consumption of the ExSwitch6400 switch. This allows it to be integrated into an Intel CPU card so it can be deployed for data center top of rack (ToR) switching, network functions virtualization (NFV), hyperconvergence, and security appliance applications
The SDN global market is growing at a CAGR of 53.9 percent from 2014 to 2020, this according to IDC, which will drive the value to $12.5 billion. For companies that solve the SDN challenges, just as Centec and EmbedWay did with this collaboration, they will be able to capitalize on the opportunities of the growing market as more organizations in different industries look to optimize their networks.
