China Enterprise Opens Cloud Data Center
China Enterprise ICT Solutions Ltd. has turned up a new 14,000-square-meter data center in Beijing’s Yizhuang area. This new facility will help power the company’s enterprise cloud services.
The company didn’t provide much in the way of details about this new facility, but it did say the data center was designed with scalability, security, and stability in mind. And, it added, the data center was built to address the needs of enterprises that are undergoing digital transformation and embracing cloud and Internet of Things architectures and applications.
China Enterprise is a subsidiary of CITIC Telecom International CPC Ltd. That’s a subsidiary of CITIC Telecom International Holdings Ltd.
“In line with CITIC Telecom CPC’s service commitments, all DataHOUSE cloud data centers – including this latest Beijing DataHOUSE center – offer 24x7 monitoring services, customized hosting and co-location solutions, and diversified value-added services, such as remote service, smart rack management, and WAN acceleration,” the company explained.
CITIC Telecom CPC and China Entercom have more than 30 data centers around the world. The new data center is connected with cloud data centers in Beijing's Jiu Xianqiao and elsewhere to allow for backup and disaster recovery.
Although data centers are opening in China, the total number number of data centers around the world is on the decline, according to DatacenterDynamics. Right now data centers are at their peak, at 8.6 million, according to the piece.
That’s not because of lack of demand, of course. On the contrary, demand for data centers is surging.
However, there’s a move toward giant data centers operated by large companies. Estimates indicate there will be 1.94 billion square feet of data center space worldwide next year, up from 1.58 billion in 2013. And, according to Cisco, more than three quarters of data center workloads will run in cloud data centers next year.
