Cloud Native Computing Foundation Attracts New Members

The Cloud Native Computing Foundation has significantly expanded its membership. Newcomers include Bloomberg and Morgan Stanley, GitHub and GitLab, Qualcomm and Zendesk, Reddit and The New York Times Co, and 22 others.

CNCF is focused on the integration and advancement of open source technologies like Kubernetes and Prometheus. Kubernetes, which was created by Google, is a container orchestration technology. Prometheus is an open source monitoring and alerting toolkit initiated by SoundCloud.

The foundation introduced its new members this week at the Open Source Summit in Prague. With the addition of the 30 new members, CNCF’s membership now exceeds 100, says CNCF Executive Director Dan Kohn.

Other new members include enterprise software developer ACEDEMAND IT Services, container-based platform-as-a-service company Alauda, Kubernetes supporter Applatix, and container-based application security outfit Aqua Security. Also new to the foundation are mesh infrastructure company Buoyant, security management company Cloudvisory, container-as-a-service platform provider ContainerShip, and digital performance management provider Dynatrace. Chinese CaaS company Ghostcloud, Kubernetes Clusters manager Giant Swarm, and management tool provider Gravitational have also come aboard CNCF. So have container images authority InfoSiftr, IT solutions provider New H3C Technologies, cloud application monitoring firm Netsil, and Kubernetes cluster management company Nirmata.

Others new to CNCF are containerized storage firm OpenEBS, hybrid cloud management company Platform9, automation outfit RackN, code management business resin.io, and platform company WS02.

End user members and supporters that are new to CNCF include some of the companies mentioned at the top of this story, plus financial services cloud platform company Kuelap and The Wikimedia Foundation.

Other noteworthy members of CNCF include gold member ZTE, which is a giant supplier out of China; platinum member SAP, a well-known German software company; and Box, Capital One, eBay, Goldman Sachs, Ticketmaster, and Twitter.

Tuesday was Day 2 of Cisco Live for Fiber Mountain and we continued to experience high levels of traffic, with many high value decision makers and influencers visiting our booth. One very interesting difference from most conferences I attend is that there are no titles on anyone's show badges. This allows open conversations without people being pretentious. I think this is a very good idea.
