ONF to Demo CORD POD at MWC
Members of the Open Networking Foundation will be at Mobile World Congress staging Edge Cloud demonstrations that leverage CORD POD technology.
Mobile World Congress starts later this month and runs through March 1. CORD POD is an ONOS Controlled P4 switching fabric and community.
ONF sponsors of the CORD POD showcase at the Barcelona event include
Arm, Barefoot Networks, Intel, Mariner Partners, Netsia, and Radisys. Cavium, Ciena, Mellanox, and the ONOS Project are also collaborating in the effort. And AT&T, China Unicom, Comcast, Deutsche Telekom, Google, NTT Group, and Turk Telecom helped define the use cases to be demonstrated.
"Ciena is serving as prime integrator for this bold demonstration featuring over a dozen substantial innovations. We helped to pull together and verify the various technology elements into this comprehensive proof-of-concept that illustrates the art of the possible on democratization of wireless and wireline access networks with open, programmable platforms for multi-access edge networking," said Steve Alexander, CTO of Ciena.
The showcase will demonstrate:
• New 100x performance, cost, power and space savings. This will be enabled by hardware-based VNF acceleration with SDN.
• Per-subscriber real-time orchestration, with XOS chaining together VNFs on both servers and programmable P4 switches to instantiate custom services for individual subscribers
• Hierarchical orchestration and automation. This will employ ONAP as a global orchestrator and CORD as the intelligent edge cloud infrastructure.
• Interoperability with ETSI Multi-access Edge Computing.
• Commercial grade virtual function (vMRF) with complete life-cycle management and policy driven automation via ONAP on CORD platform.
• And more.
"Radisys is committed to CORD and the creation of an agile, flexible, programmable, elastic and performance optimized architecture allowing mobile operators to cost-effectively meet the coming requirements of MEC, in the evolution to 5G," said Neeraj Patel, vice president and general manager, Software and Services Solutions, Radisys.
