Transforming Network Infrastructure Week in Review: OIF, Infinera, Rockley Photonics & More

October 01, 2016

You don’t have to work in technology to know a digital transformation is taking place. The always-on, always plugged-in world in which we live is neck deep in redefining the way network architecture operates as a result of burgeoning areas of development such as the cloud, SDN, NFV and the like. With the weekend upon us, there’s no better time than the present to take a look at the week that was in network transformation: Time for the Week in Review!

The Optical Internetworking Forum (OIF) announced two projects on the optical front this week. IC-TROSA is focused on offering manufacturers a means for improved integration to transmit and receive optical components. CFP2-DCO provides a method to create an address management interface and identify registers. TMC’s Paula Bernier has everything you need to know HERE.

Infinera is set to supply Midco with metro and data center interconnect services (DCI). Midco is moving toward diversifying services, and by leveraging the Infinera XTM series it can support metro Ethernet services as well as enhance its data center fiber channel transport services. “The Infinera XTM Series extends the benefits of Infinera’s long-haul solutions to the metro and offers cable operators the benefits of scalability, ease of use and superb reliability," said Karl Thedéen, Senior Vice President, Metro Business Group at Infinera. Complete coverage is HERE.

This week Rockley Photonics is firmly committed to developing packet switching solutions that are massively scalable to address to growing hyperscale data center market.  Rockley Photonics’ CEO, Dr. Andrew Rickman noted, “Our unique network fabric solution crosses over a trio of current and legacy market areas and players in a dynamic and fragmented market space. Innovating across the boundaries will cause disruption and get us noticed.” Full insight and analysis is HERE.

It’s no surprise that software is eating the world, now it seems its set to take a HUUUUGE leap forward in the data center space. According to recent research from Allied Market Research, the space is projected to reach a valuation of nearly $140 billion by 2022. The entire article is HERE.

The Transforming Network Infrastructure Community is a resource for those in the data center and networking space. Spanning primarily the topics of Optical Networking, Virtualization and Hyperscale Data Centers – the forefront of network infrastructure transformation – we are always looking to hear from you! Day 4, Cisco Live! - The Wrap

Day 4 was the final day of our first ever Cisco Live! We had a great show, with many great conversations and new connections with existing and potential end users, resellers, partners and job hunters.

Day 3, Cisco Live!

Day 3 of Cisco Live is history! For Fiber Mountain, we continued to enjoy visits from decision makers and influencers who were eager to share their data center and structured cabling challenges.

Day 2, Cisco Live!

Tuesday was Day 2 of Cisco Live for Fiber Mountain and we continued to experience high levels of traffic, with many high value decision makers and influencers visiting our booth. One very interesting difference from most conferences I attend is that there are no titles on anyone's show badges. This allows open conversations without people being pretentious. I think this is a very good idea.

Day 1, Cisco Live!

Fiber Mountain is exhibiting at Cisco Live! In Las Vegas for the first time ever! Our first day was hugely successful from just about any perspective - from quantity and quality of booth visitors to successful meetings with customers.
